After Lisa and myself graduated from
Rizal Technological University with a B.S. in Computer
Engineering, we became involved in the
evolution of the computer industry. We were fortunate enough
to expand our horizons and be involved in the development of
information technology.
I started as a Product Engineer in
one of the leading PC distributors in the Philippines and was
promoted to R&D Supervisor after a year in that
company. The task became more challenging starting
with product testing and research and eventually leading to supervising the activities of nine
R&D Engineers. Later, I
decided to join a system solutions company as one of their Systems
Engineers, providing training, technical support and network solutions to its
clients. One of these clients was an international
bank which persuaded me to join them as one of their Systems Support
Officers in their Credit Card Division supporting the LAN/WAN
infrastructure and applications for approximately 250
clients. I was later promoted to Assistant Manager
position after my 6 months probation at the bank.
After two years in the Credit Card
Division, I became involved in the Systems Security unit of the
bank responsible for implementing the IT security policies and standards across
all systems, platforms, and infrastructures, thereby protecting the
bank's ever-critical data in the Phillippines.
Eventually, supporting the security unit of other North East Asia
countries (NEA) became part of my task. This job led
me to more frequent travels in Asia, conducting gap analysis, implementing
security standards and providing technical
expertise to the countries' security group.
Lisa on the other hand was employed
by one of the leading microprocessor/ semi-conductor manufacturing
companies as a Product Engineer. As a product engineer, she is
responsible for New Product Introduction (NPI) activities
including startup, preparation and manufacturing system
setups. She is involved in the development of a product
quality improvement strategy that is being implemented in the
Philippines and act as the site's primary owner of design
validation, characterization and test program. Eventually,
she is responsible on how to improve the product
quality once it is implemented in a high
volume manufacturing environment in the Philippines
site. She also provides technical expertise to other
groups for the resolution of product-related manufacturing
issues. The job requires her to accept job relocation
to other countries like Israel and the US, thus leading our family
to more frequent travels.
Last year we decided to take-up
post-graduate studies to enhance our formal
education. We both enrolled in our Alma Mater in pursuit of
a Master's in Business Administration which would help us in
establishing our own business.
